Mysterious Species Conservation

There are points in your life that you may catch something out of the corner of your eye.  A fleeting glimpse of a thing you thought you saw, but upon further inspection, find it to be nothing at all. A smudge in the distance or blob around the corner. Maybe your glimpse contains a bit more, such as a hand or some fur or the eyes of an unfamiliar face looking back at you. If you should be so lucky as to catch sight of one of these peculiar things, you may want to stop and look around a bit more. Perhaps it wasn’t just a shadow or trick of the eye. For there are creatures that reside on the outskirts of our existence. Beyond the routine and tasks of our daily lives. Occasionally, some cross over into our world. From time to time we may even be able to see into theirs. If you should be so lucky as to view one of these individuals. Do not be scared. These mild-mannered friends are really quite harmless. In fact, many of them are the last remaining members of their species. Unfortunately, the adult human mind is not as likely to pick up on the things that youthful eyes can see. Because of this, these wonderful creatures will not be around forever. They will end up on the borders of our imagination; slowly fading away alongside the tired dreams and ideas that fill the forgotten memory banks inside our heads. The following poems outline the stories of some of these creatures. There are many different sorts of characters in this book. Some are silly, a few are sad or afraid. Many are curious, lonely or confused. All of them are quite strange and mysterious.  They possess unique qualities and would like nothing more than to observe their surroundings in a thoughtful manner as their beautiful world passes them by. I see similarities between their world and ours. I believe that we may have a lot to learn from them and I would hate to think that they may not be around forever. Please, do me a favor and read their stories. Then sit back and think of some of your own. Write them down, sing about them, act out your own plays or draw pictures if you should feel so inspired. Do these things and perhaps these wonderful creatures will stay out there on the margins of your memory. Dropping in for a visit now and then. If only to share their comfort and wisdom when you least expect it or perhaps, when you need it most.
